Eye rolling to the side and blinking

Eye rolling to the side and blinking

I saw a post for a lady (Rebecca428) who's 4-year old had the same symptoms in February 2008 as my son (also 4 years old).  My son just started rolling his eyes about a week ago and I was told by our family doctor that he had a sinus infection and congested ears and that he was voluntarily eye rolling to get relief from sinus pressure.  The doctor asked my son if he rolled his eyes because it felt good and my son said yes, but other times I asked him if he knew he was rolling his eyes and he shook his head no.  My son also says his eyes itch and sometimes burn.  I'm treating him for a sinus infection.  He is having pain in his ears and his sinuses over his eyes and near his temples.  He is also said sunlight is hurting his eyes near his eyebrows.  Obviously this same thing has happened to others.  What is this?  I e-mailed the other lady with the same experience, but I have not heard back from her (yet).  The online response that I saw to her from the doctor was private (P2P - person to person?).  I really would like to find out more about this condition and what may be causing it.  Could it just be sinus pressure?  He only experienced eye rolling one other time last spring and it only lasted a few days (he also had ear congestion).  This time it has been going on longer than a week.  Has anyone had this experience with a child that could comment?  Are there any doctors that could provide detailed feedback about this?  I would greatly appreciate it.  This is really worrying me.

You need to have your son examined by a Pediatric ophthalmologist.  Eye do not roll to get relief from sinus pressure.

I would like to know what happened with your son.  My son did this at age 6 at the same time he was having significant issues with ears infections, etc.  Only lasted briefly.  He is now 11 and it came back in Jan. He had two ear infections prior to and was once again diagnosed with an ear infection and fluid in his ears. He is being treated with antibiotics and steroid eye drops. Did your son continue the eye rolling?  ANY other information from a doctor?  I would appreciate any help. This is very concerning to me.

My daughter is 11, and since August she is having the same symptoms. She rolls her eyes involuntarily while she is talking, she complain of dryness. I've noticed that is more frequent when she is exited or has a lot of things going on with her friends. My first instinct was increase her fluids, asking her to drink more water during the day. Her pediatrician didn't seems to be very concern (I couldn't believe it!) she just said that maybe related to allergies!! (didn't believe that either); the treatment that she prescribed confirmed that because it did not work. I took her to a ophthalmologist just to make sure her eye were fine and he confirm in fact that she has 20/20 vision and there is nothing suspicious neither inside or out of her eyes other than dryness. I'm waiting now to go and see a pediatric neurologist at the end of this month. In the meantime I've continue the Thera-Tears the opthalmology prescribed.                                                                                                           Mothers, follow always your instinct.
