Failure after 2nd Retinal Detachment Surgery

by Seagaul, Aug 22, 2008 10:19PM
I have just undergone my second time of having the silicone oil removed from my eye and the retina is beginning to detach itself for a third time.  The second detachment I had a scleral buckle placed around the eye in April 2008 and just had the oil removed a week ago and at my one week appointment I was told the retina is detaching once again.  Has anyone gone thru this three times?  The surgeon now said that I will possibly need to leave the oil in my eye permanently - which I will be having done this week.  I could read letters once the oil was removed but I fear that I will never be able to use the eye again for reading.  Please offer any comments if you have had this same problem.  Thanks.

I am so sorry about your eye.

I have had 5 surgeries. I have made numerous post here. I suppose you have scar tissue. You can do a search on the posts here.

I am facing a big challenge right now. I just posted on the eye expert forum. I have silicone oil for the seond time, and it may have to be removed again.

Silicone oil has many possible side effects. Has your doctor discussed this with you?

If you you have questions, send me a personal message. The doctor will give you the best answer about reading.

Again, I am sorry you are experiencing this condition.

Post your question Fin, maybe on the eye expert forum. I think the doctor missed it. I think it would also be great to ask your surgeon for an answer to this question
