Far-sightedness in a 6 year old

My child sometimes writes certain letters and numbers backwards, such as, b, d, 2, 3, 7.  At the recommendation of my child's 1st grade teacher, I took my daughter to have an eye exam.  The doctor has found that she was far-sighted and prescribed reading glasses.  The doctor had found that her eyes are in great health and told me to have her eyes checked in a year.  Will the reading glasses alter my child's natural eye development and is it normal for children her age to be far-sighted?  Thank you.

If you saw a non-MD optometrist its quite possible your child doesn't even need reading glasses. Comparative studies with Eye MD ophthalmologists show that optoms are about 2-3 times more likely to prescribe reading glasses that Eye MDs and review shows these extra are NOT indicated.

Your child's problem sounds like a reading problem rather than a glasses problem. Even children with strong need for glasses don't do things like you describe your daughter as doing.

I would seek help through remedial reading and special education if its a big problem. In the future see an Eye MD ophthalmologist so you don't have to worrry if you're being sold a pair of glasses she doesn't need
