Flashing lights after vitrectomy

Flashing lights after vitrectomy

I had a vitrectomy performed 5 weeks back for a rd. my vision has slowly been getting better. Since yesterday I have been noticing flashes of light in the upper right corner of my eye. The flashes are colorless but are visible in the dark when I move my eyes. Any ideas what might be causing the flashes?

You need to see your surgeon ASAP.   Flashing lights can be due to vitreous traction and the concern is a development of a retinal tear and subsequent retinal detachment.

You will need laser and possibly gas (in the office) if you developed a tear.

Hello Dr O:
I am a bit scared. I am having cataract surgery at Bascom Palmer on my left eye. This eye also has a condition called foveaschisis due to my high myopia. My question is does this surgery (cataract) makes this condition to get worse. Please I am having surgery next week, if you can please tell me I will be thankful.
