Floater/Twitches

Floater/Twitches

  I am a 35 yr female.Nearsighted. A few months ago I started experiencing
twitches in my left eye on the lower lid, everyday for almost
a month. That finally stopped and then I noticed floaters in
my eye. Black dots and stringy looking things. I use the
computer alot and wonder if this could cause this. Also I
have had headaches for the last 6-9 months, which started
with a wrong prescription worn for over a month. Could that
cause permanent damage to my eyes? I have made another
appointment with a different eye dr. But it is 3 weeks away.
These floaters are very irritating, will they go away?
How do you ever get used to them if they don't?? Will they
get worse? What else could cause them besides the retinal tears
that I have read about. Could a tumor or something cause these
symptoms. I am making myself nuts waiting for the 3 weeks till
the appointment. Can you ease my mind alittle? Thanks so much.

The twitches in your eyelid are usually nothing to worry about and they usually go away as they did with you.  Stress and changes in your diet may precpitate these.  Occasionally abnormalities in your blood chemistry could cause this but this is not as common.  This has nothing to do with the floater.  Floaters are caused by normal changes in the vitreous gel that fills the back of the eye.  Most ofter these are not associated with any eye problems.  You should be seen by your ophthalmologist to make sure that there is no retinal tear present.  A tear is more likely if you are also experiencing flashes of light - then you should be seen real soon.  Other things that can cause floaters are inflammation and blood in the eye, these are much less common.  Floaters usually dissapate after some time any they can be annoying before then.  Regarding the glasses, wearing a wrong prescription will not hurt your eyes but may cause a headache.  Good luck.
