Floaters and Bloodshot eyes

Hi.
I am 23 and about 1 month ago I noticed a sudden increase in floaters in my vision in both eyes, as well as a few starlike flashes.  I only see these when looking at the sky are light background.  In addition, about the same time, my eyes became severly bloodshot.  There is no pain, but a slight dryness maybe, and the floaters are tremendously annoying.
Is bloodshot eyes frequently accompanied by floaters?  Could my blood vessels be leaking excess fluid?  I don't know if it matters, but I live in a big city with a hideous smog problem and, about the same time as the onset of my eye problems, the smog increased to record proportions and has stayed there.  Could the pollution be affecting my eyes in some way?

It is certainly possible that the environmental conditions could be causing your eyes to be more bloodshot.  This may also represent allergies, dryness, or conjunctivitis.  If this persists you should see an ophthalmologist.
I do not think the red eyes hs anything to do with the floaters.  I would see an ophthalmologist soon for evaluation of the floaters to make sure there is nothing wrong with the retina.  If you call an MDs office they will usually see you the same day for this.
