Floaters and lights

Floaters and lights

Hello,

Last december I saw a shower of lights that looked like small worms that moved rapidly.
It stopped after a few seconds.

Since then I have the impression that I have a lot more of floaters, especially in my left eye.
(But I've always had floaters by the way).  I am 34.

I got an eye exam a few weeks ago.
The doctor did not dilate my pupil with drops but only used the light to look through.

I asked him afterwards if he would have seen if there was a problem with the retina (detachment)
and he said yes, that I was ok.

Should I leave it to that now or should I get another exam elsewhere?

And are the drops necessary to do th exam??

Thanks

John

You should have a dilated fundus exam (when they use the drops, and probably use special head gear). See an eye optomologist. find one at aao.org. Try and do this quickly. Floaters should be evaluated as quickly as possible.

You need to see an eye MD ophthalmologist-physician and he/she needs to dilate your eyes for a detailed interior exam. Find one at www.aao.org

Thanks for your comments.
I went to see the eye MD and, after dilatation, she saw that I had a small scar in my eye but that had healed and that may be the cause of my more numerous floaters in that eye (and my flashers experience too).
