Floaters

I recently went to my doctor to get a eye check up. I am 20 years old and have a power of -5.75 in both eyes. I've been experiencing floaters for a while now so i thought of getting it checked out for a retinal tear. The doctor checked my retina and said i have several holes and have a weak retina. He said it is advisible to undergo laser therapy which will stop further damage and floaters.

I've heard that there is a lot of debate on this subject. And hence im confused where i should go for the laser therapy.
Can anyone help me?

Laser will not diminish or eliminate floaters. It may seal the retinal holes. There is much disagreement among retina Eye MDs about which holes should be treated with laser or freezing (cryotherapy).  I suggest you get a second opinion from another retina eye MD ophthalmologist.

If the holes are small, round, without fluid or traction and located inferiorly rarely are they treated.

Thank you so much for your help. It really helped me in taking a decision. I'll probably get the laser treatment done so that the retina holes dont cause more damage.

Thanks again.

1.  Some go away, most don't,  most learn to ignore or tune them out.
2. Generally you cannot give that type of iron clad guarentee
3. Some are very dangerous some are harmless. Depends on size, shape location vitreous traction presence of lattice family HX of RDl;. Only the Eye MD looking in your eye could quantitate the risk

also have a couple of questions -
1- Do floaters go away eventually?
2- The doctor was sure that after the therapy there will be no more damage. Is this true?
3- How dangerous are retinal holes and floaters?
