Fluid behind retina in silicon-filled eye

Fluid behind retina in silicon-filled eye

I have extreme degenerative myopia (7 diopters myopic after removal of lens), A year ago, at age 64, I had a first retinal detachment in my right eye. It was successfully treated with vitrectomy, gas bubble and laser welding of periferal holes. Last July a macular hole appeared, eventually leading to large-scale detachment. This time the gas-bubble treatment failed: after 3 weeks there was again fluid behind the retina. The next surgery did not bring to
light any apparent holes. Gas with more additive was used. After 4 weeks strictly facing down (also during sleep)
there was again fluid behind the retina. In the last surgery (9/4) the eye was filled with silicon oil, in the hope of
stopping the leakage. But the natural fluid in the bottom of the eye has found a path and is collecting in pockets behind the retina, more or less detaching the lower half of the retina. Vision is slowly deteriorating.
New surgery could only be successful if a way is found to seal those hard-to-find holes.
Could a buckle have that effect?  Is a buckle dangerous to such an elongated eye?  Can the eye be contained
by a film attached to the buckle (I read about this)?  Are there any other options?

Your best option would be to see another retina Eye MD for a second opinion on your condition. Buckles are not danger to long eyes and are used mostly on long eyes.
