Fluid on optical nerve

Have 9 year old granson with fluid on opti nerve. What is it called and will it get better itself without surgery. How dangerous is the surgery Thanks Grand pap

That is too vague to give you an answer. It's like saying my basement has water in it what is the cause. Could be leaky pipes, could be blocked storm drain, could be a flood, could be due to a thunderstorm, etc. You get the idea.

Some of the conditions that might be described that way include optic neuritis (papillitis), pseudotumor cerebri, papilledema. THere are perhaps others.

You would need a specific diagnosis from the MDs treating your child to allow us to give you any useful information.
