Fluid under retina

Fluid under retina

I am 27 years old and back in August of 2009 I went to see my cousing, an eye doctor.  She told me that with my current glasses I was seeing 20/60.  So she wanted to look more into why I was seeing so poorly out of my right eye.  She took a few pictures and said the discoloration in the macula looked a lot like Macular Degeneration.  So then she sent me to an optomologist in September.  They did a dye test and found there was a large amount of fluid under my retina.  They were not sure why it was there or how it got there.  With the dye test it showed a spot with a commit like tail on it.  They told me that that could be where it is coming from but they wanted to send to the Dean McGee eye institute to have them look at it plus get a second oppinion.  I just had that appointment a few days ago and they told me it was not a mass or a tumor but they didn't know where it was coming from or what caused it, but that it looked like it was healing itself because they could see some scarring.  They asked me all kinds of question from if I have had the flu or a cold or anything really.  But to be honest with the exception of my eye I am pretty healthy.  Can you tell me if this is something that will continue to happen even if it goes away?  Or if there is something they can do with the scar tissue that has been forming?  And what could have caused this?

Dear Blurryeye,

I would recommend that you speak with the eyeMD that you saw and ask whether a diagnosis was made.  This would help in understanding the course of your condition.
