Fluids under the Retina (as per the ophthalmologist)

I am a 29 year old healthy Caucasian male who does not smoke or drink. I went to the ophthalmologist yesterday for a spot (Kidney shaped - Light brown color)  that has been there constantly for 2 days now. The ophthalmologist informed me that I have Fluids under the Retina and that there is a 50% chance it would go by itself within 3 months!
I would like to know:
1. What is the reason behind it?
2. How will I know if the Fluids will not continue gathering under the Retina?
3. Will this Fluid affect/harm the Retina?
4. How is it treated?
