Follow up exam.

Follow up exam.

Dr. Hagan,  I have an easy question for you, I hope.  First my eye history.  I'm 55 yr old female.  In June of 2007, I had retinal reattachment surgery in my left eye.  During the 9 weeks it took for my gas bubble to dissipate, it was determined that I had developed a very dense cataract.  My retina MD referred me to a cataract MD and in October of 2007 I had cataract surgery, which despite concerns of complications, the cataract was easily broken up, was easily extracted, and the capsule was strong enough to hold the new lens. The next morning at my appt. when my eye patch was removed I was delighted to finally have center vision after 4 months.  One week later at eye appt it was discovered I had developed PCO.  In late Dec. had the YAG laser procedure. Next day tests were done, and I have an epiretinal membrane.  Saw retinal MD March 2008, everything stable, next appt. March 2009. Question, Do I need to make appt. for cataract MD before or at 1 yr anniv. of surgery, or will retinal MD take care of all eye care.  Thanks

That is not as easy as it sounds. Different Eye MDs do it differently. Some retina MDs will "do it all" others will not do refractions and treat anything other than retina. The best thing would be to ask your retina MD.

Thanks for your reply.  It was my fault, long eye history ect., that my true question was if I need to see my cataract MD before or at the 1 yr anniv. of my cataract surgery for a check-up, or if at this time my retina MD takes over all my post op eye exams, and there is no need to see my cataract MD concerning my left eye.
Thanks again,
LS
