Galucoma Test

Hi,
We just came to know that my grand mother ( mother's mom) have galucoma. So, me and my sister would like to go for a Glaucoma test ASAP. But i am not finding any glaucoma specialist in close to my area right now. But i have an ophthalmologist in my area who attended his  ophthalmology residency in  Mayo Clinic, ranked in the 99th percentile on her Ophthalmology Board examinations, done  fellowship training in external disease, He is in practice for almost 7-8 years. So, if i go to see that ophthalmologist will it be enough for a glaucoma test? Or i have ( must go) to see a Glaucoma specialist?

Hello QUE123   Glaucoma is a very common disease and almost all comprehensive general ophthalmologist have training, experience and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Glaucoma specialists are most helpful for the 2-5% of glaucoma patients that are extremely hard to treat or diagnosis and for very complex and difficult glaucoma surgical operations.

If the ophthalmologist in your area does glaucoma then he/she should be able to evaluate you. Some cornea and external disease specialists don't do glaucoma. I would just call their office and ask them.

You have the odds heavily in your favor that you will not have glaucoma. Age is a big risk factor for the most common types of glaucoma.
