Gene Injections to make retina strong

Gene Injections to make retina strong

Hi Dr John,

I visited a famous Dr Aggrawal in Bangalore before I got my retina surgery (Buckel) done on 12th Jan 2008 by some other Dr in a different hospital. Dr Aggrawal had suggested that they make some injections by taking patients DNA as base and this helps in making the retina strong. It reduces the risk of detachment by providing nourishment to retina.
I wanted to know is there any thing of this kind that is being used in US or by doctors.

I was planning to take this even after my RD so that my right eye's retina which my current doctor says has weea spots and which he plans to correct by laser, can be protected. I will surely consult this with him but wanted to know from you if this therapy is true or a myth.

Regards,
Abhishek

Sometimes a person's serum is injected to help seal a retinal hole. I can't be more specific than that. Anthing other than that would likely be experimental.

You could ask to see published papers on the procedure.
