General anesthesia would only be used in a patient that is combative (eg mental illness, Alzheimer's disease, infant or child.   Local anesthesia is much less dangerous, less expensive, and its very hard to justify doing anyone under general.  Also many surgicenters just cannot do general because they have a RN do the anesthesia not a MD anesthesiologist.

Why do you want general anesthesia.   Is it because you are afraid to be awake?
I had both and believe me I would not want general anesthesia again. It was not necessary.

If you are anxious about the procedure, you can request IV sedation.  In some surgeries centers, IV sedation is routine.  It would eliminate your anxiety, and you probably wouldn't remember the surgery.
