Genteal prescribed for problems in vision after cataract surgery

Hi! My mom, like I posted before was seeing a round circle in her left eye after cataract removal surgery whenever she looked at a certain angle. She did visit her eye specialist and he said there isnt any such problem, that people develop such problems after cataract surgery (he didnt find any problem with her retina). its been more than 6 weeks since her phaco surgery nhas been done and that circle formation whenever she tilts her eye toward the left side isnt going. Her doctor has prescribed her Genteal. I reaseached on it and found out that its used for dry eyes, but her problem with the circle thing is not caused by dry eyes. I'm worried and not sure. I would like an urgent opinion on it. Dr. Sandy T. Feldman and Dr.Sandra M Brown especially requested to give their opinion though I would welcome anyone's opnion.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. MAY ALLAH GIVE ALL OF YOU BEST OF HEALTH.AMEN

Dear seema141,

Does your mom see this round circle if she does not look at this angle? Is the circle present all of the time or does it change? Does your mom’s doctor think it is of concern?

Hi!   My eye is doing the exact same thing as your mother's.  The circle in the peripheral vision (at the outer edge) seems to be MORE noticeable when I make my eyes concentrate on something at a tilt down..especially when looking down, like at the keyboard.  It is bothersome and there seems to be no explanation for this "crescent moon" shape.  I know there is a reason for it...but no one wants to answer it.  All we are looking for is why this happens and what can we do to make it go away OR how to make it not be so noticeable.

Thank you
Terri

Dear Dr. Sandy,

Ref. to you post above regarding my mum's issue of seeing a circular shape. She only sees it when she turns her eyes on the left side. It ONLY happens when she turns her eyes to that particular angle and its quite irritating and bothersome. It doesnt change every time. Its the same. Her other eye which was also operated by the same eye surgeon with a gap of 1 week in between seems to be fine and is not causing any problems.

On her scheduled visit to the same doctor 6 weeks after the surgery, the doctor did a dilated eye test. He didnt seem to be concerned about the matter, but didnt even give any significant information as what could be happening, just prescribed her Genteal for 1 month i think. Even though, he is one of the most credible doctors here in Karachi, Pakistan, but I have learnt not to trust anyone, since we have had issues from the same hospital in other areas of medical. Only God knows the truth though! I just want a second opinion from a great doctor like you. if this is of any relevance to you, she is tyope 2 diabetic on glucophage 500 mg twice a day, takes rosuvostatin 10 mg once at night to control her sugar and cholestrol levels. She takes loprin (aspirin) 75 mg as prophylaxis use of medicine. I her taking fish oils thrice a week 1000 mg and multivitamins. She doesnt seem to have any co-morbids.

Could it be the diamond cut made during the phaco process, some tiny damage done during removal of cataract, the IOL size being smaller than her pupil or vitrous detachment. her retina was okay the doctor said!

I would be grateful if you could reply to me in in light of my concerns. Thank You really!

Hi!
You are so cute talking like a "Texan!"  Ha!!!  I can't wait to hear back from Dr. Feldman too.  I know this has to be a occurring thing most people have after surgery.  I did find an article about this and it talks about the light reflecting off the lens angles and that sometimes that causes the "dark crescent shape" your mom and I see.  I hope thats all it is.  I still have the flickering and can see my pupil wiggly when I look to my left or right to back forward. The lighting has to be behind me and I can see my pupil literally wiggle.....strange I know!  LOL!!  I will keep checking back with you and If i find anything out on this end, I will let you know.  I go to my Dr. Friday so I will ask him a bunch of questions for US!   :)

God Bless You,
Terri

and yeah i noticed in your profile that you are from texas. and i had to tell you that I was born in dallas, texas. I was only 1 year old when my grandmother died and my family had to move back to Pakistan. I never had the chance to go back. though i have my precious blue passport hahaha.
If i would have grown up there I would have been wearing the cowboy boots and speaking like" I SPIT LIKE A MAANN! .....love the accent!

Anyway Im a Muslim, 28 years old, my mom is 60, my dad was an amazing doctor who did his Ph.D in pharmacolgy from Newcaslte UK in 1960's, decicated his life to medicine and research, passed away last year due to hospital's negligence (one of the doctors was his ex student who he had taught many years back). My dad developed post surgery complications b/c of the incompetence of nurses and that particualr doctoc and after suffering painfully for 9 months he passed away.May God give him Heaven and make all of us capable of entering Heaven as well. AMEN. Thats the reason I have trouble trusting doctors when they say nothing is wrong.BUT I have to say, that my mum's doctor is a very credible eye doctor, the best on the city they say and his track record is quite good (another one of my dad's ex-students). I hope Dr.Sandy can finally put an end to this mystery!

take care.

Hi Terri, Hope all is well by the Grace of God!

Thanks for your comment. I have been in touch with Dr.Sandy (opthamologist) who has been trying to figure out also what the problem could be. Keep on refering to my posts and her replies as well. Maybe you will find an answer for your problem.

BUT I would recommend you in the meanwhile to get a second opinion from a good credible eye doctor.Maybe he/she could guide you about your issue. Dont get too stressed about it. Its not life threatning Im sure! its just too irritating right!. Listen terri, have you checked your eye number, maybe you need glasses, maybe that could reduce the shapes you see and help you in focusing as well.

You live in a country where there are million state of the art facilties and services being offered. You should take advantage of the facilties. Its a blessing from God.

May Allah solve your health problems and help you find a solution to your answers soon. Keep on working hard to find an answer, keep your trust in God and you will succeed in the end. Thats what my faith teaches me and this applies to every aspect of your life.

Take care
