Ghost letters above and below original letters

by ninikie, Sep 02, 2009 01:26PM
During the past few months I noticed while reading the news sub-titles on TV that in the right eye I had a distinct replica of each letter vertically below each given letter and about the same size but slightly to the right. The "shadow" does not separate completely from the given letter  (giving me two separate lines of script) but nearly. The shadow is the same color as the given letter, sharp as the original, but slightly paler in color. Tonight I noticed that there is also a shadow above the letters. This shadow is not clear, yellow in color and lying obliquely into the TV screen, giving a 3D effect. My eye specialist thought it was because of my cataract. He removed the cataract a week ago and implanted a new lens. However this has not solved the problem but seems to have emphasized it.

I would be most grateful for your advice on my problem.

Dear ninikie,

It is possible that you may have astigmatism, or an oval shaped cornea. This causes double and distortion. I would recommend that you report these symptoms to your eyeMD and ask to be evaluated to determine the cause.
