Ghosting with standard cataract lenses

by vo123, Jan 13, 2008 01:23PM
I know ghosting occurs with Rezoom lenses.  Does it occur with standard lens implants?

I know that uncorrected astigmatism can cause ghosting.  What does your doctor say?

I appreciate your input in past posts- would you explain meaning of following words:  stigmatism, astigmatism, and abberations.  Also, has your ERM surgery remained quite successful?  no ghoshing, starbursts, etc of Rezoom iol?  Thanks, Duane54

Hi,
two weeks ago i had my left eye CLEAR surgery...which is same as cataract surgery...Alcon single vision lens...correction from -19 ...yes correct...to my new prescription of + 0.25 and Astigmatism  1.5  ...distance good ..no ghosting ...unfortunately close vision (upto 3 metres somewhat blurry)but this probabaly due to Astigmatism and the minor plus prescription.but no ghosting ..no starbursts...seems good result ...will feel better when I have correction glasses i guess,

Duane54, my ERM surgery restored the vision in my affected eye to 20/20+.  However, it left me with some residual distortion that has sometimes created binocular vision problems.  By contrast, my cataract surgery was a complete success.  I got aspheric monofocal lenses (not ReZooms!), and I've never had a problem with ghosting, starbursts, glare, etc.

I read someplace that astigmatism is the result of a cornea shaped like a football rather than a baseball.  Higher order aberrations also involve corneal abnormalities.  (Maybe one of the forum doctors can provide better info about this.)

Vo123, I think that you will really enjoy your new vision.  You will probably be able to drive without correction.  Your close vision should also be very crisp with glasses/contacts.
