Glasses for farsighted 12 yr old necessary?

Glasses for farsighted 12 yr old necessary?

My 12 year old son states that his glasses or contacts for his farsightedness do not help him see better. His Rx is +3.25.  He reads, does well in school, and plays soccer sometimes with correction and sometimes without.  He has worn glasses since he was 5 but the past few years he has often not wanted to wear either contacts or glasses.
Is there any danger or possibility of future problems by not wearing them?  Should I insist he wear them every day or allow him to go without them?
Thank You!

Dear Andie930,

I would recommend that you speak with his eyeMD to determine whether or not it would be all right at this age to not wear his glasses.  There is a critical period in which vision is not corrected, it can result in an eye turning inward as a result of his farsightedness and a lazy eye.
