Glaucoma or Alzheimers Indicatior

My mother in law has Alzheimers and has been in a Memory Care Facilty for 3 years.  She is 85 years old.

In the last 6 months I noticed she has black dots on the iris of her eyes.  Is this an indication of late-stage Alzheimers or another disorder such as glaucoma?  She would not sit still for an ophthalmologist's exam.  A general practitioner checks her at the facility.  Please advise.
