Glaucome and antidepressants

by starr28, Jan 24, 2008 03:04PM
Hi,

I am on antidepressants for severe depression and leanred that my
pressures are high.  I have read that antidepressants can worsen
glaucoma so I am unsure what to do.  I dont want to damage my
eyes but I cant imagine going without my antidepressants either.
Any suggestions?  Thanks so much!

best wishes,
starr28

You should see an ophthalmologist to see if you have glaucoma and if so what type.  If angles are open and pressure is controlled with drops and/or laser then it is very possible that you may be able to continue anti-depressants.  Just have it checked out with ophthalmologist.  I know I have dozens of glaucoma patients on anti-depressants that are doing quite well - as long as anges are open and pressure ok.
