Richard Alan Lewis at the TX medical center.  Trained at Bascom and is probably the best in the city.

Since there are over 3 million cataract operations in the USA each year most ophthalmologists have great skill and experience in that type of surgery.

Just to clear things up...I am not doubting their skill or ability to perform the surgery..I would like to find an opthamologist that wouldn't mind sitting down with me and discussing my concerns and helping me decide which option would be best...I feel so lost...All three opthamologists that I have been to just see me for maybe 5 minutes and its not to discuss anything...they just say I recommend this and then I am shuttled off by a tech to schedule my surgery...I know they are busy but I would like just one of them to sit down and discuss each alternative and WHY they think what they recommended is the best...This site has been my only source of help and from some of the posts...it seems like there are some doctors out there willing to spend the time...

Well, if you're looking for a long chat, Lewis may not be the best option.  I think he's tops from a technical standpoint - he really knows what he's talking about, he's brilliant, and his pedigree is virtually unparalleled.  His bedside manner is good (although sarcastic and very dry-humor-like), and he'll probably give you a decent amount of time to discuss, not more, not less.  You might let the staff know when you call for an appointment about your concerns and that you would like an extended period of time with the doctor.

I know that he does care, because he does respond to emails I send after my visit.  Some of his responses have been lengthy.  It's your job to make it clear to him (or whatever doctor) from the start that you're very concerned and you really want ______________.

Do you know any good lasik Surgeon? Is there any FDA or State list that says Dr.Xyz is good and Xyz is bad?   I badly want to get lasik but want to be sure he is trained surgeon not some technician  who does 5,000 a month
