Gray spots on sclera (white part of the eye)

My son is 3 years old and he has several gray spots on his eyes?  I noticed it mainly in one eye but then became very visible on the other one.  What exactly is that?  Why does it happen?  Is it affecting his vision at all?  When he was born they did a catracts check on him and he didnt appear to have anything, doctor's have seen that on him but yet never mention anything to me... I am really concern and want to know what that is, will it impact his vision in the future?

It could be a natural area of thinning of the sclera - which is fairly common, but I cannot be sure.  It could also be some type of nevus or freckle or other.  It is best to have an ophtalmologist take a look at him to be sure.
