Grey translucent dots/specs in vision

Grey translucent dots/specs in vision

I am writing this about my brother because he is worried about his sight. He keeps on about it and wont see a Doctor

He has had his eyes checked by an opthalmologist and everything is fine but;

He says he can see like white/grey translucent dots that move around in his vision when he looks at a white/light/cream background like in front of the vision and when he concentrates on it, they are more obvious. Also sometimes when he stares/looks intrensely at a plain wall he says he can see the surface moving/converging very slightly, a bit like when you look at something for a very long time, your eyes play tricks on you giving the sensation that its moving slightly.

He said this is not migraine as he suffers from migraine and are not floaters.

Does this sound normal to you? I would like to give him some reassurance.

Thanks.

That description is typical of "flying blood cell corpusules", and is one of the more common entopic phenomena that people become aware of. Suggest you use the search feature and read about entopic phenomena then read the section at www.wikipedia.com on same. These are the blood cells cirulating around the macula. It's normal.

Thanks very much for your reply Doctor. I really appreciate it

Sometimes he says it looks like certain things (especially straight lines) can look like they are very slightly fluttering when he tries to focus on them but when he looks at those things through either eye it goes away. is that also normal? Do you think he might need glasses? He can read perfectly though.

Thanks again.

Only a medical eye exam by an Eye MD ophthalmologist can determine the cause and I would suggest seeing one. These symptoms are not suggestive of needing glasses.

Thanks Doctor

Surprisigly and unbeknownst to me he went to see one this morning and said that he had a dilated exam, something called an OCT and thorough eye exam.

After explaining his symptoms, the opthalmologist said that his eyes are perfectly healthy, everything is normal including optic nerve. I am not sure what he should do next but he is stumped. The Eye MD asked if he was under any stress and thinks it cold be that. He said that he hasn't had any symptoms today. Could this be a valid explanation?
I guess they can tell if its MS from the optic nerve, what about other neurological problems. The Opthalmologist told him that that its not brain related, except it could be migraine too...
I get the feeling the Eye MD had no idea. Could it just be a phase he is going through?

After researching this problem we came up with this information. Its called Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome or Visual Stress. Apparently its quite common. Pay attention to Contrast Issues as this seems to be more relevant to his symptoms
