HELP! prolonged atropine effects

HELP! prolonged atropine effects

I had lower eyelid surgery a week ago. My right eye has had severe chemosis and been so uncomfortable. So, like a dummy I self medicated. I had some 1% atropine and put one drop in my eye and 3 days later it is still dilated and the chemosis is still there. Did I cause serious problems, In the past when my eyes have been dilated for exams the atropine wore off in 4-5 hours.
Thanks,
Never self medicating again (Lisa)

The atropine will last 1-2 weeks.  You could ask your doctor if he/she has any dilation reversal drops which could help just a little.  Atropine is very, very strong and long lasting so it might not help much - but worth a try.
The usual dilating drops in the office are much shorter acting (4-6 hours) - atropine is used usually only after major eye surgery.

My husband  also self medicated using atropine and the effects lasted  one week.  His pupil did go back to normal after the week but he also learned a lesson. don't self medicate.  They were my drops from my eye surgery.
