Halos, flashing lights

by TRomie, Oct 23, 2008 08:54PM
I am a pretty healthy 23 year old male. I have been having a few strange things happening with my vision. I have a pretty high perscription for being nearsighted which is 5.5 or so i think.  In the past two years or so i have developed halos around light, ecspecially LED type lights that seem to keep getting worse over time.  It also seems to be much worse with blue and green lights compared with other colors. Another thing that i first noticed about two years ago is little tiny lights that seem to swim around in my eyes when i look at bright lights. Both of these symptoms have gotten much worse recently.  I also see floaters but have been told that that is normal.  I have gone to my eye doctor twice this last year with my concerns but after dilating my eyes and even using a new camera thing on them she said they seem to be perfect.  Its gotten to the point now where i cannot go outside with out seeing thousands of these little light things swimming around and the halo thing has gotten really bad at night. I also have sharp pain behind my eyes and some pressure from behind also. I am very woried about going blind. do you have any idea what is going on?

Is your eye doctor a non-MD, non-physician optometrist?

If so you are not receiving the best care. See an ophthalmologist Eye MD physician. Find one near you at www.aao.org

If you are seeing an Eye MD get a second opinion.

The little tiny things you see swimming around are problem the "flying corpusle or blue field entopic phenomena. read about these with the search feature and the section on entopic phenomena at wikipedia.

Was that a typo, Doc? I think you meant "probably" instead of "problem." The blue field entoptic phenomenon is not a problem as I understand it.

Right no spell check on the site. Entopic phenomena are normal.
