Headaches for a LONG period of time after cataract surgery

My husband has had cataract surgery in both of his eyes.  His right eye was done September-07 and after 3 months felt no more pain and everything to this date is just fine with it.

He had his left eye done in January-08 and has headaches ever since the surgery.  He visited his eye doctor post-surgery and also had another visit to him in August-08 at which time the doctor told him he still has inflammation behind his eye.  He is taking Maxidex 0.1% dexamethasone and it doesn't help him.

We don't know what to do now or where to turn to because he still has this problem.  We are looking for any advice you may be able to provide us to make his inflammation and headaches go away and for his eye to be back to normal.

Any advice you could provide would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Kate

Dear Misty76:

I was told after my cataract surgeries one eye could be fine and the other might have problems.  I'm not sure why this happens, but I developed an eye infection more severe in the second eye than I had in the first one.  I felt alot of eye pain and had many headaches until I finally found out I had an eye infection.  My eye was also really red.  I had to use eye scrubs, bacitracin for eyes only and use drops to get rid of the infection.  I'm now on Restasis for dry eyes.  Maybe you can ask your physician about these possibilities.

Suggest you give this information to an opthalmologist in your area for a second opinion - in person.

Thanks for your answer, but I'm not sure what you really need more in the way of information.  I can provide answers for any specific questions you had regarding this post.

Thank you.

I'm sorry but I am not clear from your description what exactly is causing the problem.  It should not be too difficult to have another ophthalmologist look into this.  If the eye itself is doing well with no ocular inflammation and good vision, then you would need to look into other causes of headache.  If there is persistant, serious inflammation of the eye, then the cause needs to be identified and fixed or at least treated.  You didn't give enough information to really give you any help other than that.
