Help Needed

Thanks so much for your kind replies, Dr JC Hagan.
Had vitrectomy (with C3F8 gas) done on 3 Nov 08.
It's 27 Dec now and I still have the circle gas shadow reflected in my vision. I can also see a black speck 'floating' around within the circle all the time.
Are these normal?
Is it safe to get back to work (nursing) on 2 Jan 09 eventhough the gas hasn't dissipated yet?
Was too much gas put in?
Thank you!

Pin hole glasses are a waste of money and really is just a test to see if regular glasses would help. So if you see better with a pinhole regular glasses should help you.

My vision is being affected as a result of my lens turning cataract after the eye op. Please advise if the pin-hole glasses could help me to see better.
Thank you!

1.  Yes sometimes.
2. re-read my first posting. Only your surgeon can advise you about work.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply.

I have some further questions.

1) Is it normal that this particular black speck is only seen WITHIN the circle gas shadow?

2) Is it OK to return to work on 2 Jan 09? because 18 days ago there was 30% of the gas bubble still left. And now there is still the gas bubble reflection.

As a general rule, can a patient in these circumstances resume work then?

Thanks for your help.

Yes it is normal, black floaters are common, your surgeon will have to determine when you can return to work and this does not indicate that too much gas was put in the eye. That gas is used because it takes a long time to dissolve.
