Does a high cup disk ratio necessarily indicate damage, or can it just be congenital? Also, waht about assymetry of the optic nerves, ie, them no being completely round?

Yes, it can be congenital.  Also, can be congenital.  It is best to get a nerve scan and other tests as indicated.  See an EyeMD.
