High myopia - am I candidate for LASIK

Hi, I'm a 32 year old female. I have high myopia (-11.5) in both eyes. I started to wear glasses when I was about 10 and my eyesight got progressively worse. I was given GP contact lenses when I was 11 to halt the progression. My eye sight continues to deteriorate at about -.5 per year. Even though my optician told me that I wasn't a candidate for laser eye surgery, I made an appointment to see a Consultant Opthamologist. He told me that he couldn't see any reason why I couldn't have laser eye surgery (depending on the results of the various tests he has to perform). I am naturally very concerned. I really don't want to have laser surgery, because of the complications associated with the procedure but I also don't want to be in a position in 10 years time when glasses or lenses don't correct my vision. I have dry eye and am worried that it might exacerbate it.
Do you think that if I am a candidate, I should do it?

I can not tell without an exam.  Get a few opinion.  Also, you might consider an ICL.
