How are retinas reattached?

I wasn't aware until I read a post here that retinas can be reattached.  I'm very nearsighted, -8D in R eye and -10D in L eye.  I have beginning cataracts, no macular degeneration (age 67).  My Retina and Macula Specialist (ophthalmologist) says that very nearsighted people are at a much greater risk for retinal detachment because the extra long eyeball stretches the retina and it can just finally give up holding onto the eyeball. I have "lattice" areas near the front of the eyeball.  I'm not sure what the significance of that is but I know it has something to do with a weakening of the retinal hold on the eyeball. In case I do get retinal detachment, I'd like to know more about retinal reattachment.  PS:  I'm very careful about my eyes.  I even go so far as to try to keep my pillow from pressing on my eyes.

Incision made in the eye to remove subretinal fluid, cryopexy applied around holes/tears, scleral buckle applied around eye, sometimes a vitrectomy done, sometimes gas or oil put in eye.
