I need Cataract surgery. My last RX for distance was RT -12.00 -3.50 031 LT -10.00 -0.25 120. and I also
have Glaucoma. I have visited 4 different Opthomologist. Two of them were Glaucoma specialists one of which has been treating me for the last 10 years and the other 2 treat Glaucoma but do not specialize in it. I'm considering selecting one of the Glaucoma Specialist to do the surgery but like everyone else I want the best result. With my vision second and third surgeries to correct the first are not an option.
My Glaucoma Specialist opinion was to use a regular -2 IOL implant in each eye. Left eye done first with second eye done 3 to 4 weeks later depending on how surgery goes and healing. He said he would not be giving me 20/20 vision. -2 implants would allow me to see clear about 20 inches and within a 10 foot room, however now I finally understand from Dr. Hagan's response that in order to see distance I will also need multifocal glasses not just bifocals and this would be needed to see clear in a 10 foot room. Didn't know this before he responded to me. This doctor also sent me to see a Retina Specialist and Cornea Specialist for tests.
The second Glaucoma Specialist repeated all the same tests in his office including a similar test that the Cornea Specialist did. This Dr. said he would use Toric IOL but I can't remember if he said in both eyes or just the one. He also indicated that he would do the second eye a week after the first surgery. He said I'd go nuts if I had to wait a month between surgeries.
Both doctors are capable of doing any Glaucoma surgery if they feel it's needed.
In reading articles I think there are several ways or formulas to calculate the IOL's that will be used. How do I know that either of these doctors used the correct one?
How does one find and select the best doctors? With my vision I feel this surgery is a one shot deal. I can't afford to have additional surgery to correct errors.
