How does an eye injury cause heterochromia?

I have heard that injury's to the eye can cause a change in eye (iris) color like heterochromia ,so I was wondering how this happens? What kind of injury causes it? and does the whole of the iris change to a different color ,If so what color?

A: Blunt injury to the eye causes a loss of pigmentation in the iris. This changes the color of the iris.


What kind of injury causes it?
A: typically blunt trauma


and does the whole of the iris change to a different color ,If so what color?
A: whole iris may or may not change, usually lighter in color.
