I experience floaters and light flashes in the left corner of my left eye

I've been experiencing floaters and light flashes in my left eye.  I have seen an opthomologist and he says there is a hole which has to mend on its own.  This has been going on for 2 years now.  The flashes are not as frequent.
Should I be seeing a retinal specialist?  If so, is there anyone you can refer me to in the ny metropolitan area?

Was the hole treated??   Acute retinal tears associated with flashes and floaters are usually treated.  These are usually referred to as retinal tears.  Retinal hole are not usually associated with flashes and floaters and are not treated.  Also, they do not heal on their own.
