IOL dislocation

My husband is 47 years old, had cataract operations in both of his eyes. The first 33 years ago without IOL implentation and the second eye 23 years ago with IOL implentation. 3 years ago the IOL was dislocated and he went through an operation to relocate the lens. The operation was succesful however 3 months ago the lens was dislocated again and moves. In the last 3 months it goes in and out of its place.
I think the IOL is PMMA and my question is how dangerous it is to replace the lens and how common is the operation of taking out an old lens and putting in an new lens? Do you know of any specialists around the world? We live in Israel. Thank you so much for your help. Esther

Hello Esther.  Replacing an IOL is usually more complicated than the first cataract removal/insert IOL.  It doesn't happen very often so many cataract surgeons do not do many of these. Usually in every community of any size or in a medical school department of ophthalmology there is one surgeon that specializes in complications of cataract surgery.  Find out who does it. There are many many find Israeli eye surgeons.

Every department of ophthalmology at every medical school has a "troubleshooter". I would suggest one of the medical schools in Tel Aviv.

In the USA: John Hopkins, U of Miami, Wills Eye Hospital, Emory University, UCLA, USC all of the top name schools hae excellent ophthalmology departments.
