Impaired vision genetic?

Impaired vision genetic?

Since birth, I have been blind in my right eye.  Doctors attributed it to amblyopia.  Then they said the optic nerve didn't develop at all in my right eye and looks abnormal in my left eye, although I can see 20/20 out of the left eye. One doctor said it could be optic hypoplasia.  I have heavy cupping in both eyes and all opthamologists I see seem to think I am a high-risk candidate for glaucoma, but my eye pressures are normal.
My question is this: I want to have children.  Given this history of my eyesight, is it probable that my children will inherit this disease? I want to prevent having a blind child if I can.

Bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia could represent a syndrome of some Kind but unlikely to be genetically passed down in the absence of other abnormalities.  You should consult a geneticist to be sure and your doctors may want to get an MRI to make sure you don't have any other abnormalities.
