Inquiry on myopia

I've been researching this and for the life of me I can't find an answer.

I've read that high grade myopes have a degenerative type of myopia that causes the vitreous to "degenerate" quicker.  I've also read that myopia (not specifically high grade myopia) causes vitreous degeneration which is causing me some confusion.  I was thinking maybe they both do, but its gradually as the myopia gets worse (but I'm just speculating, thats why I want to get an answer).  They refer to the severity of myopia by pathological or congenital which makes me think there is a distinct difference between the two and not just a gradual difference.

Secondly, what causes the elevated risks such as PVD in myopes?  I don't see how a steep curve of the eye could cause anything else but badly focused images.  If you fix the curvature with a laser (I think it is called PRK or something) would that fix the other side effects besides just the vision?

We have discussed posterior vitreous detachments and vitreous liquification "syneresis" at length in recent eye forum postings. Use the search feature on this page to pull up these discussions. We have also discussed pathologic myopia and myopic macular degeration.

LASIK does NOT reduce the risk of retinal detachment and myopic degeneration which are due to the axial LENGTH of the eye. All lasik does is reshape the cornea to diverge light. It does not change the length of the eye.
