Iris discoloration in Infant

by RZmamma, Feb 16, 2009 12:26PM
My baby has a discolored portion of his iris in the bottom inside corner of his left eye.  He has had it from birth and is now 3 months old.  His eyes are blue (still), and the discoloration is a solid brown patch.  Can this be a sign of something wrong?  Should I be worried?

Most likely its just an iris freckly (in the eye called an iris nevus), however point it out to your pediatrician and ask whether the child needs to be seen by an Eye MD opthalmologist.

The patch should not change in size or appearance if it does see an Eye MD immediately. Find one near you at www.aao.org
