Irritated and sore

Last night I was making dinner and I ended up in contact with raw chicken. I had dredged it in flour and was frying it. At some point before I got the chance to wash my hands, I think I touched my eye.  A couple of minutes later my eye was itchy and swollen and really red so I put in some allergy drops just in case, and it cleared up a little bit, but I woke up this morning and it was crusted shut and still swollen and irritated.  I don't have pink eye, but is it possible to get something from the chicken in my eye that could irritate it? I can't find anything on the internet. Help!

Thank you! My sister kept telling me I was crazy, so it's nice to know it can be irritated. It has cleared up quite substantially since I woke up this morning.  Thanks so much!

Yes it could happen. Use warm compresses and artifical tears. If not better as the day goes on try and see an Eye MD.
