Is it common for a macular hole not to be closed 10 days after surgery?

I had macular hole surgery on 1/3/11.  I had my 10 day check-up today, bubble still present.  My doctor said most of the hole had sealed but a small section had not-what are the chances that the hole will close?  Does this indicate that I would have to go through a 2nd surgery?  If so, would this surgery only entail replacing fluids with gas and not the membrane peel?  I followed doctor's orders but as you can understand I am wondering why I went through this.  I see a light spot in my central vision but not the distortion I had before surgery.  I go back to the doctor in a month.  If my hole doesn't close, how soon could I have the 2nd surgery?
