Is lifting weights not recommended for myopics

I exercise regularly but i am terribly nervous of weight training cause i've heard it could lead to retinal detachment as im a myope and have -6.5 in both eyes...

Is it true and  is there some extent to which weight trainng  can be undertaken...

You can lift your weights just don't stand on your head.

Hi, this is what is mentioned on wikipedia which is NOT always correct :

'Some doctors recommend avoiding activities that increase pressure in the eye, including diving, skydiving, again with little supporting evidence. According to one medical website, retinal detachment does not happen as a result of straining your eyes, bending or, heavy lifting.[14] Therefore, heavy weightlifting would appear to be fine. However, two recent scientific articles [15][16] have noted cases of retinal detachment or maculopathy due to weightlifting (specifically with the Valsalva method), and a third documented an increase in blood pressure in the eye during weightlifting [17].'

The only exercises that i feel would increase the chance of getting a retinal detachment would be performing 1 rep max squats and deadlifts, which imo should only be done if you were training to be a powerlifter or for strongman competition.
