Is patient age a factor in success rate?

Macular Hole.  I'm (only) 46 years old and was just diagnosed with a macular hole.  Is my relatively young age for this problem any indication of success with regard to 1) the successful closing of the hole and 2) a return of my central vision.  (The hole is stage I at this point, and I would say less than 6 months old.)  And, why would I be "guaranteed" to develop a cataract?  (Earlier responses to questions in the forum seemed to suggest this.)  Thanks.

Dear kpacyna,

Macular hole surgery is recommended for macular holes with stage 2 and greater.  The success of surgery is partially related to the positioning of the patient.  Cataracts form due to the vitrectomy and bubble against the lens; however, these are easily removed.
