Is sharp pains in my head caused because of Computer Vision Syndrome?

I am Male 28 and computer engineer(i used to work on average for 10 hrs on computer for last 6 years before all this started)

My problems started after I moved in to a room with 4-5 flouresent tube lights...where I worked on my computer (on avg. 8hrs) for more 2 months....

It all started with the feeling of foreign body sensation... followed by continuous twiching of the lower eyelid of right eye...this went on for 2 weeks...and i started developing photo-sensitivity to white light...very very difficult to work on computer even when brightness is least...diagonized as DRY EYES.

After 2 months the condition got worse...increase photo-sensitivity...lot of twiching...

Then SHARP PAINS in head started...everytime I tried to work on computer...or watch TV..my eyes would become red...and I get head-aches....sharp pains(like a small needle pressed on head)...and normally goes away when i stop watching TV or move away from my computer....

My vision has become BLURRED..only when I look in to an LCD screen..words appear less focussed...however I am able to see the letters sharp when I use anti-glare screen and decrease the brightness)..even little glare stains my eyes...and my head too.

I am a computer programmer and am supposed to work atleast 8 hrs on computer every day...my life has become hell bcos of this....i take breaks after every 3-4 minutes...or sometimes just hold my head(massaging it) and continue working.......

I have gone through many tests...throurogh examination of eyes...brain MRI...brain mapping test(which tests whether neural problem is there)...full body test...and everything came out fine.....but this pain doesn't go away....My doctor said i have COMPUTER VISION SYDROME...my eye muscles have stressed out....

I am on Restasis and some vitamin tables for a month now...still no relief...

If someone has any solution then please recommend.

Hi Dr. Oyakawa,

I think I may be suffering from computer vision syndrome.  It started 2 months ago at work while on the computer, I have what I can only describe as a pressure feeling going up to my head, from where I'm not sure, I start feeling very off balance and weak like I'm going to fall out of my chair, when it passes, usually after about 4 hours, I feel a need to go to sleep.  When I get up to walk, my legs are like jelly and I feel unbalanced, feel like I'm falling to the left.  The first episode caused me to have a panic attack and with each further episode I can feel a panic attack coming on.  I had an eye test 2 months ago and was prescribed multifocal glasses, also had photos taken because one of my optic nerves was bigger than the other, can't remember which side though.  The pressure feeling seems to be left sided and my nose, cheek and eye on that side feels full, my eye just doesn't feel right.  After these episodes my eyes are very blurred.  I have only been able to put in a couple of full days at work for the past 2 months.  I have been an audio typist for the past 20+ years and spend around 8 hours a day at the computer.  I use a computer at home, I can feel it happening at home but not to the extent it happens at work.  It usually happens in the morning.   I have noticed deterioration in my eyesight for the past year or so, but just put up with it until this happened.  I live in Victoria Australia and have tried to find an opthalmologist/optometrist on the net who is familiar with computer vision sydrome in my area so I can be tested - unable to find anyone........interested in your suggestions.

Dear Dr. Oyakawa,

Thanks for ur suggestion.I have got that done too..the number came to be 0.5 less in both the eyes than my present number.

However when the Dr. checked me again than he advised me to continue with my present number and said that a difference of 0.5 will not matter.

Before I had problems with computer and TV...now whenever I try to read anything(even newspaper) ..a pain starts building on the back of my head...

I am not sure as whether I should get myself checked from an opthalmologist or a neurologist?

I would recommend getting a cycloplegic examination ( refraction with your eyes dilated).  This paralyzes accommodation and gives a true refraction.  From this number get computer glasses.

I have exactly the same thing.  Are computer glasses specific for the computer?  I found a company called Jin's, that makes glasses that block out alot of the blue light.  Die5s this make sense?
Computer glasses are focused on the computer screen and generally fuzzy for anything further than that.
