Is the pink eye gone?

I had pink eye a few weeks ago along with my sons.  I was prescribed eye drops for 10 days.  After the 10 days I put my contacts back in and had no more problems.   About a week later I noticed my eye was red again and I woke up in the morning with crusty stuff in the corner of my eye.  My prescription is gone.  My eye no longer look red, but still itches occassionally.  I want to be sure I still don't have pink eye before I put my last pair of disposable contacts in.  Is the pink eye gone?

Dear lek78,

I would recommend that you see your eyeMD to determine whether the infection is gone before you resume contact lenses.

I'm sorry but I cannot make that call.  If you are still having problems, do not wear your contacts and call your ophthalmologist to see what to  do next.  Your question is totally appropriate but only your own doctor can tell you what is going on.

Is the discharge white with a yellow tinge to it? Is the itching worse after waking up and as you shut your eyes at bedtime?
