Is there a sub-specality for glaucoma

Is there a sub-specality for glaucoma

My husband was diagnosed with glaucoma - don't know which 'type'...he's 75...as of tonite he's going to be using Lumigan, 1 drop nightly  and tomorrow the ophalmologist will run required tests.   We've known this physician for years and have complete trust in him.  He took care of both of my cataracts and I am very comfortable, however with regard to treating glaucoma would it be wise to see a 'sub-specalist' (if there is such a category just for glaucoma) or can the 'general' opthalmologist be qualified enough for this condition?   Thanks in advance for replies

Yes, there are ophtalmologists who specialize in glaucoma.  You might either ask your regular ophthalmologist for a reference or find a glaucoma specialist at www.aao.org.

General ophthalmologists can manage 95% of the cases of glaucoma, the most complex would benefit from the extra training of a glaucoma ophthalmologist.

Find one near you at www.aao.org
