Katie - Cytomegalovirus

I have cytomegalovirus in my eyes and my left eye is becoming very blurred as the macular is damaged.  I am taking valganciclovir.  Is there an operation that can regenerate the damaged cells, or help my vision?  My right eye is reasonably OK at the moment but does get floaters accross.  The virus was higher in that eye.  Can anybody help me?
Will drinking alcohol (white wine and sherry) do any harm?
Thank you for your attention.

First the good news white wine (red wine is better) or sherry in moderation 2 or less/day will not hurt and is often healthful. Heavy alcohol use is not.

At this time replacing your damaged macula is not indicated. There are procedures to implant artifical maculas but they are experimental, expensive and only indicated for people with loss of both maculas.

Hopefuly over the coming years artifical maculas created by nanaotechnology, stem cells, electronic microcircuitry will become feasible.
