Keratoconus and Cataracts

Hello,

I'm a 45 year old female who was recently diagnosed with Keratoconus and mild cataracts. Surgery was recommended. My Doc wants to implant INTACS and replace my lenses with artificial lenses. Crosslinking is not an option atm.

My question: Is it common to have both Keratoconus and cataracts together, and is surgery my only option?

Will I go blind if I opt out of surgery?

Thank you Dr. Hagan!

I've had 3 doctors confirm the Keratoconus diagnosis, but I'm going to consult with a corneal specialist about surgical and non-surgical options.

1. While K-conus does not include cataract as part of the syndrome it is common for K conus and cataracts to occur together.
2. I cannot tell you what other options you have. But read this carefully http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/841991/Consider-ALL-the-Options-Before-Your-Cataract-Surgery-Working-Through-Whats-Best-For-You
3. Suggest you get a second opinion from another corneal surgeon/Eye MD ophthalmologist
