I had Lasik surgery done 12 years ago and both of my eyes before the surgery were -15.0. The Dr did 2 Lasik surgeries on each eye over an 8 day period and the results were .-5(left) and -1.25(right). About 24 months later, the left eye had regressed to about -1.75 and another Lasik was performed to bring it back to -.5.
Since then, the left eye has remained stable, but the right developed a macular tear which I had to have a vitrectomy performed to repair. I will have cataract surgery on the right eye in the next couple of months due to the vitrectomy. Near sited eyes are more prone to "detachments and tears".
I have been very pleased with the surgery and the most important issue that helped me in the Lasik surgery was that my corneas were very thick which allowed the Lasik surgery to be as successful as it could be.
It's all about the surgeon. Find a good one who has done Lasik on individuals with your perscription and get references!

You are too myopic to correct all your myopia with lasik. You might consider seeing a ophthalmologist that does corneal/refractive surgery for some measurements on how much of your myopia lasik might correct. If they can get it down to -3.00 or less you might want to consider it.

Your other option is clear lens extraction/IOL insertion  also known as refractive lens exchange. This involves much more risks. use the search feature and archives and loot at the extended discussions we have had in the past on this latter procedure.
