I can't tell you about the long-term results because I just had it done in January. However, I can tell you that they attach this suction thing to a docking unit which they put on your eye. The laser not only makes the hole in the anterior capsule, but in my case it did limbal relaxing incisions to significantly reduce my astigmatism (I was not a candidate for a toric lens). It also breaks up the cataract. After the laser is used, then the surgeon uses the ordinary ultrasound phakoemusification (excuse spelling) to remove the cataract and he then puts in the new lens.
Before having it done, the prescription of my glasses was -18.75 for the right eye and -17 for the left eye with -1.50 for the astigmatism in the right eye and -2.50 in the left eye.
I now have 20/20 in my right eye so no correction for distance for the new glasses I will have and -0.50 astigmatism. For the left eye, he overcorrected a bit so I will have +0.75 in the left eye with -0.50 for the astigmatism. With the correction, I will have 20/20 in my left eye, and that is even with the fact that I have a scar on my retina which distorts the image (that is from a CNV I had two years ago).
